Let’s start with what you already know: Workana is a freelancer search and recruitment platform that has over a million users.
It was founded in Argentina, it grew to become a leader in Latin America and has now begun to operate in the Asian region. Our goal is to connect you with the best freelance talent in the world and enable you to hire it quickly, conveniently and cost-effectively.
All right, now let’s move on to what you may not know: Workana’s story.
You see, from day one we set out to support the revolution that is taking place in the world of work, in a scenario in which freelance recruitment is growing year after year.
We are very proud to be able to continue to do this, to reach more and more people and to be doing it better every day. That’s why we want you to get to know us a little better, so you can get to know all the work and dedication behind this company that already offers its services in your city.
Workana’s story: an idea becomes a great project
Workana was founded in 2012 in Buenos Aires by 4 Argentine entrepreneurs. Tomás O´Farrell, Guillermo Bracciaforte, Fernando Fornales and Mariano Iglesias.
Here you can see a picture of them the day they got together for lunch to talk about the project… and started to shape it right there.
Tomas had recently finished working at Sonico. Another startup that co-founded and became the largest social network in Latin America, with over 50 million users.
He hired a freelancer to do his son’s birthday video through an online platform. He thought it was great the number of professionals he found, the speed with which the work was finished, the quality and the good price.
He was very enthusiastic about the experience, researched the market and noticed two things: the potential of the remote working sector on the one hand, and, on the other hand, that there was nothing similar in Latin America. He told the idea to his three partners, who were also very attracted to it and decided to embark on it.
After a month of work, they launched the platform.
Workana’s potential was seen from the start, as it began to grow exponentially year after year. In this graph you can see the increase in the number of users from 2012 to 2018:
The Workana team has also grown over the years, from being just 4 founders to more than 40 people in different countries and cities and having received over $12 million in total funding.
Some of the most important moments in our history were:
In 2013 we adapted the entire site to Portuguese and started operating in Brazil. It soon became the country with the most users.
By 2014, more than 10,000 freelancers were registered and more than 30,000 clients’ projects were posted looking for independent professionals.
In 2015, together with Google, Facebook and MercadoLibre (among other companies), we founded the Latin American Internet Association.
That same year, we registered more than 300,000 users.
In 2016 we received $2 million in funding from SEEK, an Australian multinational that supports the labour revolution we promote. SEEK may not sound familiar, but one of the companies it owns does: Jobstreet.
In 2017, SEEK expands its confidence in us and invests US$ 7 million in Workana. The objective of this investment round is, in addition to helping us keep our leadership in Latin America, to start operating in Asia. Which is what we have just done 🙂
And that takes us to the present day, when we are taking our first steps in the Asian region, eager to help you find freelancers to carry out all your projects and grow your business or entrepreneurship.
What does the future hold for us?
We want to continue growing in Latin America and we also want to become a benchmark for freelance recruitment in Asia. We are going to work very hard every day, with the focus on providing our users with a fantastic experience when using the platform to hire freelancers.
Our goal remains to support the revolution that is taking place in the world of work and to offer you more opportunities. If you are a client and you need a professional for a project, we believe you have the right to choose the person you want to work with, with the freedom to agree on the price that both of you think is convenient. And you can agree as well what the working method and delivery times will be.
If you have a project in mind and need the help of a qualified freelancer to carry it out, we invite you to try Workana with a click here.
We hope you will also be part of this story we are writing together.
Greetings,
Luis Davidovich
